Equity in access to healthcare services is an important element of a healthy society. Barriers to healthcare include discrimination, social isolation, costs and excessive waiting times. These issues are particularly experienced by minority groups such as people with a disability or mental health condition, non-English speaking migrants and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Access to adequate healthcare is important for the achievement of health equity and for increasing the quality of a healthy life for everyone.
